Changes to I Should Be Writing FAQs – FOR PUBLICISTS & WRITERS
by
I get a lot of email from publicists (or authors themselves) who found my name and want me to schedule an interview with them. Most of these people never listen to the show and just know, podcast, writers, interview at some point in the past! Here are some facts about this show:
- I talk about genre fiction almost exclusively, since that’s what I write. Therefore most of my guests have been genre fiction authors. Not literature, business, nonfic, memoir, or how-to write.
The rare outside-genre authors I have had were a) recommended by friends to sometimes good, sometimes disastrous effect, and b) by my invitation only. - I stopped doing interviews a few years ago because I ran out of spoons to manage the podcast, and simply keeping the show alive was about all I could handle. I have had very few interviews since then, and all by invitation.
- The show is live streamed on Twitch now, and so has a hard time slot of 2pm Eastern Time. This may shift from time to time, but I do strive for consistency.
I am going to be accepting more authors on the show, though. Some will be invited. Some will come through publicists. On my FAQ I have updated the information on who I want to interview:
Can I/my client be interviewed?
I’m mainly looking for debut* and/or BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ authors to feature. They will primarily be traditionally published genre (SF/F/H) writers.
I wrote out a lot of reasons why I am looking for these authors in particular, and then realized, wait a second, this is my show. I don’t have to justify a damn thing. And if you’re the kind of person who gets mad because I pay attention to someone not like you, then I doubt you would have read my reasons anyway.
*”Debut” means first book out in 2020 or 2021 because of the pandemic.
