It’s hard to deal with too many ideas, but I have some thoughts. But also, for the luvva all that is decent, don’t pay to publish your book. Just…don’t.

The day was kind of a perfect storm for crap, so it ended up with me and the dogs and my phone, streaming from the basement.

To quote Stuart Smalley, “This was not my best show.” But I did it!

To respect #ADayOffTwitch, we will not be streaming this week’s episode, September 1, live. We will still record and either post the recording or do it live in Discord.

Changes to I Should Be Writing FAQs – FOR PUBLICISTS & WRITERS

New ISBW Logo orange mic with ISBW on the frontI get a lot of email from publicists (or authors themselves) who found my name and want me to schedule an interview with them. Most of these people never listen to the show and just know, podcast, writers, interview at some point in the past! Here are some facts about this show:

  1. I talk about genre fiction almost exclusively, since that’s what I write. Therefore most of my guests have been genre fiction authors. Not literature, business, nonfic, memoir, or how-to write.
The rare outside-genre authors I have had were a) recommended by friends to sometimes good, sometimes disastrous effect, and b) by my invitation only.
  2. I stopped doing interviews a few years ago because I ran out of spoons to manage the podcast, and simply keeping the show alive was about all I could handle. I have had very few interviews since then, and all by invitation.
  3. The show is live streamed on Twitch now, and so has a hard time slot of 2pm Eastern Time. This may shift from time to time, but I do strive for consistency.

I am going to be accepting more authors on the show, though. Some will be invited. Some will come through publicists. On my FAQ I have updated the information on who I want to interview:

Can I/my client be interviewed?

I’m mainly looking for debut* and/or BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ authors to feature. They will primarily be traditionally published genre (SF/F/H) writers.

I wrote out a lot of reasons why I am looking for these authors in particular, and then realized, wait a second, this is my show. I don’t have to justify a damn thing. And if you’re the kind of person who gets mad because I pay attention to someone not like you, then I doubt you would have read my reasons anyway.

*”Debut” means first book out in 2020 or 2021 because of the pandemic.

I’m behind on posting these, so if there’s a link I forgot, please let me know.

[ISBW] Showing and Telling: What Do They Mean?

New ISBW Logo orange mic with ISBW on the front“Showing and Telling: What Do They Mean?” is brought to you in large part by by my patrons, who received an early, expanded version of this episode. You can join our Fabulist community with a pledge on Patreon as low as $1 a month! You can also support at Jemi or Ko-Fi! The rewards may vary slightly, but all get the archive and bonus episodes!

I think I’m slow at these because I hate show notes. Truly.

Keeping up with my “flossing” topics- what exactly does “Show, don’t tell” mean? Is there a time when Telling is better than showing?

Twitch schedule for this week:

  • M- 2pm AMA
  • T- 2pm I Should Be Writing
  • W- 11am Ditch Diggers
  • Th- 2pm I Should Be Writing

I will probably play a game or something, but I don’t want to schedule it because it’s low on the priority of all the things I need to get done.

I WILL finish the damn novella this week. Today, hopefully.

OH YALL- Check it out! I wrote a running adventure for Six to Start, (of Zombies, Run! fame). If you have the app, you’ll have access to the adventure. And a VIP pass isn’t too expensive for so much content.

This is a story I’ve wanted to tell for so long, but couldn’t find the right medium. The Necropolis is a city within the mountains where people worship the sun and mourn the dead moon. And a Godmaker sits in cabin above them all and carves household gods for the people in town. You are her apprentice, and you

Godmaker comes out TODAY!
