Win the book that inspired Playing For Keeps!

I recently got an email from James Maxey (who did a fantastic review of PFK over at Intergalactic Medicine Show) telling me that his superhero novel, Nobody Gets the Girl, turns five this October. He’s doing a giveaway at his blog, soliciting superhero haiku and giving away copies of the book (and an ultra-limited chapbook!).
Nobody Gets the Girl came out right when I was toying with the idea of superhero prose myself, and it showed me that it could be done, and well. I don’t know if I would have had the courage to write PFK if not for Maxey.

I was wondering if Deuces Down from the Wild Cards series was the influence. Or any Wild Cards books, actually. I absolutely love that book series, and when I recently talked about both that and PFK, I got a couple of people wanting to check out your stuff. Yay for more Mur fans!

Jessika - I read Wild Cards when I was heavily into research mode for the book, but NGtG was first. And thanks for the support!

I just finished reading this last night (stayed up till 1:30 to do it) and i just wanted to say that this was a fun read. I could definitely see that this could of been made into a series of books.
Like PFK i found the characters powers interesting, Rail Blade’s mode of transport and weaponry were a nice chance from the standard set. Pit Geek surprised me the most though.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention - and I’ve already passed my copy onto another for them to read..
