I’ve been doing some guest blogging on the new pop culture blog, MINE. Like the other contributors, I look for the general awesomeness on the web, but I also have my own feature where I can focus on some awesome topics more in depth, called Mur Lafferty’s Geekgasm. MINE is your one-stop shop for entertainment news, crazy rumors, Internet memes, whimsical news bites, music, gossip … you name it, and is the top reporter of whale flatulence on the Internet. Check it out.

GEEKGASM: Grit, gears, magic and tech

Gatehouse Gazette coverSteampunk enthusiasts cried out in pain when the fabulous Steampunk Magazine went from quarterly release to a bi-annual periodical. But now we fans of this steam-powered storytelling subgenre (if you have a fascination with clockwork gears, Victorian-era technology and alternate history, you’ll love it) have something to keep us entertained while editor Magpie works her magic on SM’s summer edition.

A 23-page PDF magazine of essays, cartoons, reviews and interviews, The Gatehouse Gazette covers fashion, tech, and literature. Although it doesn’t seem to feature original fiction (one of my favorite parts of Steampunk Magazine) it does seem dedicated to point us to the latest in steampunk novels. It also gives equal coverage to a lesser-known corner of the genre called “dieselpunk.”
