The News From Poughkeepsie - Day 83
macguffin wednesdays:
My father was not much of an adventurer. He was a banker. He underwrote loans. He combed his hair over his bald spot. He watched the Yankees. I became a paleontologist just so I could get outside and study something; the thought of an office job gave me the screaming willies. So when I went back home to settle his affairs after he died, you can imagine my surprise when, among his meticulous files, I found an inventory list that read like the loot from an Aztec tomb. But when I opened his safe deposit box, it was empty. The loss of the items bothered me, but not as much as I could find no record of where he had gotten them, or how, or even why. But I knew where to start- my aunt and dad had been close once, but not in the past 10 years or so, but I never knew why.
