Anything Goes Sundays:
Some of my favorite ideas have come from my inability to type. There’s the whole “superherpes” thing that came up time and again during the writing of Playing For Keeps, as “p” and “o” are right next to each other. I was chatting with someone about queries the other day and accidentally typed “quarries”.
Then suddenly I was all aflame with the idea of book quarries, where miners chip the books from the rock face…
(first day back after a week. Whaddya want, Shakespeare?)

I remember a short story where a character was beset by strange events. I don’t recall the beginning, but the character figured out what was going on when he tried to kill himself by eating lye, but found only ley (an old coin denomination) in the box.
He got it straightened out when he traveled to Haveen, Georgia and instead found himself in Heaven.
It turns out the machine that was printing out the narrative of his life had developed a glitch, and was getting a letter jammed once in a while, causing it to be delayed by a letter or two.

(Nothing wrong with book quarries. It’s not much wierder than talking mattresses called Zem that flollop around in a swamp…)
