Patrick is an old man who lives in a brand new house.  He made sure the house was built on sterile land - actually had a dark shaman sow it with salt before he built. He wanted no chance of anything living, or anything that had ever lived, to rise from there.

The house was built from new materials, nothing recycled. Patrick knew all about recycling, how the spirits of the initial product warped and were reborn anew - and not usually for the better.

Patrick was very careful of this because Patrick himself, 83 years old, a bachelor, and a one-legged veteran of WWII, was haunted. He didnt know if the ghost came from his prosthetic leg, or the metal plate in his skull, or the fillings in his teeth, but he knows he wasn’t born with the ghost, so he had to have gotten it from somewhere.

And it was high time to get rid of it.
