The News From Poughkeepsie - Day 46

General Stuff Fridays

What amuses me about people is how much we emulate Aesop’s Fables. Take the weather. We are all convinced that whatever weather we deal with is the worst, and that anyone else who has to deal with less than we do is a complete wuss. Take Southerners and snow. We don’t get a lot of snow down here, so when it does come, a lot of people panic. Displaced Northerners mock us. And pause to think - why? Why would you think Southerners know how to drive in the snow? But when it comes to heat and humidity, boy, we know what’s up. And anyone who complains of less is clearly a wuss. This makes me think of the goat walking down the road with all the burrs, and the dog with all the fleas, and they bump into each other and trade all their problems and freak out.

Which makes me wonder why we don’t have modern day Aesop’s Fables. Maybe someone should write one.
