The News From Poughkeepsie - Day 20

Anything goes Sundays
So on the ride home I was thinking about the plotlines, mainly thinking about the whole hide-the-important-thing-inside-a-living-person plotline. And that’s been done. it’s tired.
But what if we twist it? What if we have a king who needs to hide something. Doesn’t matter what. it’s a Macguffin. We’ll worry about that later. But he hides it in a painfully obvious place. A secret compartment in his throne or something stupid. Be he seeds rumors that his item has been hidden inside a living vessel. He thinks that will distract people.
And it does.
And murder rates skyrocket.

And what if the CLASS of people that he has chosen to spread the rumor about is one that he wants eliminated or at least driven into hiding? Witches or Elves or whatever?
Comment by Mark Maris on 13 May 2008:
And it’s backfiring painfully, because some of the people killed are dear to the King. So he has to decide whether the most important thing is hiding The Object, or saving his friends/family/etc.

And when he tries to put the genie back in the bottle by saying he made the whole thing up, nobody believes him. Denial of a rumor is taken as proof that it is true.
