Meet the newest columnist for Suicide Girls
Last December I lost my job with Lulu TV/Gnack. In looking to get back into freelance writing, I figured I’d contact Suicide Girls to see if they needed writers. If you don’t know, Suicide Girls is a pinup site with women sporting tattoos and piercings, but they’re also known for having kick ass interviews, news, and columns. Wil Wheaton and Warren Ellis are both writers for the magazine. It is NSFW, by the way.
Being a feeb, I promptly forgot about the email.
So you can imagine I was a tad confused and very surprised to hear back from the editor this week. We swapped several emails, and as of today, I’ll be writing for Suicide Girls starting June 16. My column is as yet untitled, but it will be focusing on geek culture, comics, SF, games, podcasting, etc.
Long time listeners/readers will remember that many years ago I lamented that no one wanted essays on geeky stuff, which is why I started Geek Fu Action Grip. But no. It was just This American Life that didn’t want it. Since then I’ve learned that Knights of the Dinner Table and Suicide Girls do want writing on geeky stuff. And I’m more than thrilled to give it to them.
The amount of squeeing going on in this house in reference to this gig has been overwhelming. Rest assured I’ll be talking about this closer to the time, and linking to my first column next month!

Mur,
I wish you luck on your new endeavour. I confess to being a little leery, since I’ve heard of some rather unethical practices by the SG team in regards to their models and terms. However - Warren Ellis and Will Wheaton are good company, and my favorite Zen buddhist Brad Warner has written for them for a while.
On the other hand, I’ve been aware of the suit they have had against the photog Lithium Picnic and one of the original SG’s, Apnea, and it’s not pretty.
But I’ll be reading your columns, that’s for sure.

Congrats, Mur! When’s your first column? The June 16 date? Or is that just the date for the beginning of your relationship with SG?

Is it going to be weekly, like Ellis’ one?
